All India Audit & Accounts Association Completes 100 years

HAPPY CENTENARY

15.4.1923 – 15.4.2023

All India Audit & Accounts Association mother of all organisations in IA&AD completed 100 years on 15th April 2023 and is celebrating centuries of its existence and continues to rededicate to serve the cause of Audit & Accounts employees in particular and in general working people of the country. Founded by few comrades who met at Nagpur on 15th April 1923 solely with the agenda of ‘praying’ to the ‘visible god’ i.e. the comptroller and auditor general for restoration of the parity in pay scales that were hitherto enjoyed by the UDCs of the Department with Assistants of Central Secretariat Services that was taken away by the Islington commission set up by the British Government to revisit the pay structure of the civil servants in India. The Association has remained only as a petition Association for more than 30 years.

In the historic conference of the Association held in Hyderabad in 1957, Com Ramdulal Bhatttacharya was elected as Secretary General and Com EX Joseph as Additional Secretary General.  The entry of Com Joseph first as Additional Secretary General and later in Gwalior conference as Secretary General of All India Association changed the very nature of functioning of Association from praying and garlanding organisation to a militant and vibrant organisation.  The Association became a leading force amongst the central government employees whose voice was and is being listened to by all who matter. In the words of Com Vyas entire period of 1957 to 1967 the movement Audit and Accounts Association employees is a glorious chapter in the history of Central Government Employees movement. Later on that tradition of the movement was carried forward by veteran leaders like SK Vyas, CSV Warrier, Barada Bhattacharya,RK Srivastava, Com.A.V.Venkatraman,  SMA Jinnah, Bhavani Pada Bhatacharjee and MS Raja. The nomenclature of Association was also changed from All India Civil Accounts Association to All India Audit & Accounts Association over the years.  In addition to the above mentioned leaders, many other leaders and scores of them in every station sacrificed for the cause of the audit movement.

All India Audit and Accounts Association has waged several struggles for the cause of I.A.&A.D. employees.  Many of its leaders have suffered various punishments including dismissals, step down, wage cuts, increment cuts and what not!  But the Association despite various attacks from the Bureaucracy has withstood them and has carried forward the interests of employees.

Our Association has been in the forefront in leading the Confederation of Confederation of Central Government employees.  It is worth mentioning Com.S.K.Vyas who has led the C-o-C for many decades.  We can very well say that it is only because of his negotiating power that the Central Government employees are drawing a decent salary.

It is the time that all the employees of I.A.&A.D. should seriously think of sinking all the differences amongst us and uniting together to strengthen our Organisation against the Bureaucracy.  Splitting more and more amongst us will weaken us and will only serve the interest of Bureaucracy.

In this hour of mindless privatization, the relevance of our department itself is becoming a question mark.  Due to the Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation policies adopted by the consecutive governments right from 1991 has landed the people of India in great distress.  Working class is losing its hard-earned rights one by one.  The New Pension Scheme has established itself in place of the old pension scheme which provided a decent life to retirees.  It is the duty of our Association and our staff to protect the department and also the interests of people of India.

Personally, it is a great privilege to be the President of AIAAA in its centenary.

When such a great organisation has completed 100 years it is the time to remember such great leaders, their sacrifices and pass on the great legacy and heritage to the next generation. Let us celebrate this occasion and also take vow to strengthen our organisation and unite all the employees of I.A.&A.D. under one umbrella – ALL INDIA AUDIT AND ACCOUNTS ASSOCIATION.
